The pandemic in the sky…

Tomorrow — 1st October — the Aries Full Harvest Moon will rise at 10.05pm BST. It will also be a rare Blue Moon as there will be another full moon this month on Halloween, 31st October.

Aries the Ram, the first sign of the Zodiac, is an assertive star sign, meaning that it is happy to rip everything up and start again. Passionate, independent and competitive, Aries energy is perfectly exemplified by last night’s television debate in America between Trump and Biden which was apparently more like a wrestling match than a political presidential contest.

Aries is also a sign of the mind. As many of us try to work out exactly what the continuing pandemic means for us, it is becoming all too easy to descend into worry and anxiety. But this isn’t helpful. During such times it helps to ground our thinking so that we don’t buy into fear.

Colourful, falling autumn leaves give us a wonderful way to ground our minds and they help our bodies too. Clearing leaves quietly with a rake can become a meditative, soothing and mindful task, calming down our thoughts so that we can learn to detach a little from what is going on in the world.

It also helps to see the bigger picture and this is where astrology can help. When we realise that Saturn and Pluto met in Capricorn on 12th January, we see the perfect energetic conditions for the pandemic and its resultant lockdown. Such heavy, serious and restrictive energy has taken away our sense of safety and comfort and made us feel that we are governed by rules, authority and politics.

But the situation up in the sky is changing. Yesterday, Saturn started to move away from Pluto and this promises an easing as long as we complete the work that Saturn — The Great and very thorough Teacher — has set us. However, Saturn won’t leave Capricorn until 17th December so we’ve got two and a half months to finish the work that has been so painful this year.

Meanwhile, Mars is retrograde until 14th November. This means that, until then, everything is likely to feel like a battle as Saturn screams ‘Stop!’ while Mars screams ‘Move!’ — again rather like the Trump/Biden television debate.

If we are to get through this difficult time and have it ease, we need to finish the work of looking deeply into ourselves. For the next few weeks we are still likely to feel pressure and frustration but if we are calm and contemplative, we will have some deep insights and revelations into our true desires and motivations so that we can build our resilience and true personal power.

Don’t feel as though you are alone during these strange times. We may have been stopped for now but, with the necessary work, things will start to move again. Saturn has given us some much needed time out from ‘normality’ so that we can create a new ‘normality’ that will stop harming the planet we live on.

So let’s pray that tomorrow’s full moon will shine on a kinder, more grounded and calmer humanity which is becoming more interested in the good of the whole rather than the greed of the individual.

After all, we are holding the future in our hands…
